Musica Spei

presents the 9th Annual

Rochester Early Music Festival

Friday, November 6, 2009, at 7:30 pm

at St. Anne Church, 1600 Mount Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620

MUSICA SPEI (MUSIC OF HOPE) PRESENTS THE NINTH ANNUAL ROCHESTER EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL, featuring vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles from the best of Rochester's early musical community, and highlighted by a extremely rare performance of Spem in alium, the legendary and monumental work for 8 choirs by the great English Renaissance composer Thomas Tallis, last performed in Rochester over 25 years ago. New to the festival this year is music for brass instruments, including baroque trumpet and sacbut, the predecessor of the modern trombone. Hosted by WXXI's Chris Van Hof, performers include the ensembles Air de Cour, Eastman Collegium Musicum, Musica Spei, and the Castello Trio, as well as soloists Boel Gidholm (baroque violin), Demian Spindler (baroque trumpet), Amy Cochrane (soprano) and Robert Poovey and Gordon Porth (organ). An opportunity for the audience to meet and greet the performers concludes the evening.
